The Czech RepublicThe Czech Republic seperated from Slovakia in 1993, and Euro 96 was the new country's first major tournament.
As Czechoslovakia, they suprisingly won the European title in 1976, beating West Germany 7-5 on penalties, Panenka outrageously chipping the winning penalty over Sepp Maier, after Uli Hoeness had blazed his penalty over the bar. The Czech Republic are in Group Six of the World Cup qualifiers and are languishing in fifth place behind Spain, Yugoslavia, Slovakia and The Faroe Islands!
